Ascension Appoints Samson Jesudass, MD as Post-Acute Chief Clinical Officer
Ascension, one of the nation’s largest Catholic and nonprofit health systems, recently announced that Samson Jesudass, MD, has been appointed Post-Acute Chief Clinical Officer, effective at the end of March.
In this role, Dr. Jesudass will lead clinical operations across Ascension’s post-acute and at-home services, including PACE, Ascension Living, home health, and rehabilitation. He will direct clinical strategy, set quality standards, and implement care models that improve outcomes across this continuum of care. A key priority of his work will be strengthening integration with acute care partners to support coordinated and seamless transitions for patients, residents, and participants.
“This role brings me back to the foundation of my career,” said Dr. Jesudass. “I started out making home visits, caring for hospice patients, and serving as a medical director in a skilled nursing setting. As I step into this opportunity, my priority is to build on our existing strengths and continue elevating the quality of care we provide across PACE, Ascension Living, home health, and rehabilitation services.”
Dr. Jesudass will focus on advancing safety, consistency, and evidence-based care to strengthen quality, regulatory performance, and operational efficiency. He will also lead strategies to enhance care for Medicare, Medicaid, and uninsured populations, with an emphasis on clinically appropriate reduction in readmissions, length of stay, and delivering a seamless, patient- and family-centered care experience.
A respected clinical leader, Dr. Jesudass began his career in post-acute care, conducting home visits, caring for hospice patients, and serving as medical director for a skilled nursing facility. During his tenure at Ascension, he has held leadership roles at Edgar B. Davis Hospital, Seton Medical Center Austin, Seton Healthcare, and Ascension Physician Services, where he supported more than 4,000 physicians and 1,500 advanced practice providers nationwide.
Since 2015, Dr. Jesudass has served as Chief Clinical Officer for Ascension Texas, becoming the first physician leader to oversee the market’s 13 hospitals and physician group. Under his leadership, Ascension Texas advanced clinical integration, strengthened quality and safety priorities, and enhanced collaboration across the care continuum.
