A Taste of Home: creating connection with food and stories

Know a resident with a flair for baking? The one who always seems to win the Christmas cookie contest? Ascension Living is giving them a new way to connect with their neighbors.

Introducing A Taste of Home, a new program where residents can share their favorite recipes for sweet treats and savory snacks — along with the story behind them.

Each quarter, Catered Living will feature one recipe and its story in a special way. The treat might be used to welcome guests. It might be featured on the menu. It might even become part of the community’s regular offerings!

First Quarter Winner:

  • Rhubarb Betty bars
  • Barbara Rizza, Ascension Living Casa Scalabrini Village | Northlake, IL

Second Quarter Winner:

  • Gingerbread Cookies
  • Sr. Mary Pat Volz, Ascension Living Resurrection Village | Chicago, IL

For consumer experience program manager Gila Singer, A Taste of Home celebrates the rich diversity of Ascension Living’s communities, while also giving residents a way to leave their mark on it.

“Food has the power to connect us, spark memories and build community,” Gila said. “I can’t wait to hear the stories that come to life with each bite.”
