9 Ascension Skilled Nursing Facilities Named to Best Nursing Homes List

The DAISY Foundation was formed in January 2000 by the family of J. Patrick Barnes, who died at age 33 of complications of idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura. The Barnes family, impressed with the compassionate nursing care their son Patrick received before his death, wanted to recognize extraordinary nurses everywhere for the difference they make in the lives of patients and families.

The DAISY Award® is a nationwide program that recognizes nurses who consistently demonstrate excellence through their clinical expertise, compassion and spirituality and are recognized as role models in the nursing community. Congratulations to the following Ascension Living nurses who recently received the DAISY Award!

Kelly was nominated for the award by a PACE participant. In the nomination, the participant wrote, in part:

After a recent stay at a skilled nursing community, I needed help caring for a wound. Kelly initially came to help me repair my wound vac. From that moment on, she has visited me three times a week to ensure I am healing. She will come more if I need it! She compassionately provided excellent care. She is a great asset to Ascension Living because she encourages me to be positive during this stressful time.

 Bobby was nominated for the award by a co-worker. The nomination stated, in part: 

I started working with Bobby six months ago and I am so impressed with how involved he is with the residents. He works on both the 6th and 7th floors in Assisted Living. It is amazing to watch him work! He is nonstop most days up and down the stairs. Yet whenever I call for him, he's always right there to help. Bobby is always reliable and goes above and beyond for his residents and co-workers alike.

He is sweet and gentle with residents and staff, approachable and easy to talk to. He is always professional with resident care and staff in every situation co-workers while maintaining a sense of humor and making people laugh. He seems to know how to make everyone smile. He will even bring his dog to work to cheer everyone up. It's easy for me - and everyone else - to see why the residents all love him so much.
