 Ascension Living Veterans Program

Your service is part of your story, and it matters here.

Our Veterans Program

The Ascension Living Veterans Program is a systemwide commitment to  recognize our residents specific military history from day one and honor their sacrifice, and hardship through dedicated pinning ceremonies and permanent community tributes. Grounded in person-centered care and respect for the dignity of every person, the program recognizes military service as an important part of each veteran’s story.  We also  acknowledge the important role of spouses, families and caregivers.

Recognize

Know who our veterans are and acknowledge their service and stories in ways they choose to participate. Recognition may include veteran identification, storytelling, certificates, commemorative pins and Honor Walls.

Honor

Create meaningful opportunities to express appreciation for veterans, their families and the sacrifices associated with military service. These moments may include pinning ceremonies, remembrance events and military observances.

Connect

Help veterans and their families build relationships with one another and with trusted organizations in the broader community. Veteran Cafes, family groups, peer connections and community partnerships can strengthen belonging and help connect participants with available resources.

Serve

Create meaningful ways for veterans, associates, volunteers and community partners to support one another. The program can also provide opportunities for veterans to continue sharing their experience, leadership and sense of service with others.

A Consistent Foundation with Community Flexibility
Ascension Living communities are already honoring veterans through recognition displays, gatherings, spouse support groups and local traditions. The Veterans Program brings those efforts together within a shared framework while giving participating communities flexibility to respond to their veteran population, local relationships and available resources.

Program experiences may include:

(Experiences may vary depending on community needs and readiness)

  • Walls of Honor
  • Pinning ceremonies
  • Veteran "Cafes" and social gatherings
  • Honor Walks
  • Special patriotic observances
  • Local volunteer and outreach opportunities
  • Partnerships with local military and veteran advocacy and support groups

Opportunities to Strengthen the Program

Volunteers, community organizations and generous donors can help participating communities expand and enrich veteran programming. Support may help provide recognition materials, community gatherings, commemorative experiences, volunteer engagement and future program opportunities.

Through the Ascension Living Veterans Program, military service remains a recognized and valued part of each veteran’s story.
