Patricia Godek, family member

"I am the niece of Joseph DeGeorge, a recent patient of St. Ben's Rehab. The reason I am writing to you is to let you know about the caring and compassionate care he received while he was there. It was his second time at St. Ben's and my mother, who is 97, has also been in St. Ben's twice. I am sorry/not sorry, that St. Ben's has become our home away from home.

DebraTerri-Larson, Director of Nursing, went out of her way to make sure my uncle was always warm. He constantly complained of being cold. Debra, on more than one occasion, took my uncle outside to get the warmth of the sun. I was also there on many occasions when Debra would stop in his room and bring him an extra blanket. I'm sure this is not part of her job, but it meant so much to me that he was so well looked after.

Stacy Ladra in admissions has ALWAYS been more than helpful. She does SO much more than just admissions. On the Monday of my uncle's last week, I took him out on the patio during my lunch hour. Stacy saw us and brought his lunch tray outside along with getting him a Coke out of the soda machine (he didn't want to eat but always had a taste for a Coke).

Kristen Felker, Director, goes above and beyond taking care of the needs of the patients and their families. She is ALWAYS pleasant and cheerful and takes the time to talk with you. She has always returned my calls, emails, etc. She knows every patients situation like they are the only patient there.

On the day of my uncle's passing, these three wonderful women were there when my family arrived. They broke the news to us gently, in a caring and compassionate manor. They made sure we were ok and let us stay with my uncle for as long as we needed. I was so grateful that my uncle passed away at St. Ben's where people treated him with respect, care, love, etc. and not in a hospital.

I could go on and on about St. Ben's and about the special place the staff has in our hearts, but I'm sure you must know just how special they are. Most facilities are not run with the same personal care that the staff at Ben's shows. I have just mentioned these three individuals but they are all wonderful, from the nurses to the aides to the office staff, the PT staff, etc.

Please recognize that St. Benedict's is more than a nursing facility. For some people it is home. Forever grateful."
